My Daily Supplements

I get asked a lot of question about the use of supplements and whether they are worth the money. If I’m honest over the years especially when I was younger, I rarely took any supplements as didn’t properly understand them until I qualified as a PT.

Even then, I trained hard, ate badly and just carried on as before because I was young and could get away with it. Nowadays as I get older and after seeing many that I have trained with in the past, have various parts of their body need replacing, I’ve found my latest obsession!

Obviously everyone’s needs will be different based on their diet, lifestyle and training intensity, but this is what I take on a daily basis…

Multi Vitamins are first on the list purely based on the fact that, it ticks lots of boxes in one product. I take 2-3 per day depending on how I’m feeling/training levels. Although I don’t get my full 100% RDA on every vitamin and nutrients from them, it’s a decent starting point and my diet/other supplements can make up the rest

Whey Protein Powder has only really been added to my list over the last couple of years, mainly because it’s easy to make and can act as a meal if I don’t have much time. Although it’s best with real milk and I’m a borderline vegan, I save that luxury only for cappuccinos and normally use rice milk.

Branched Amino Acids and Electrolytes are vital for me because my job is very physical…and that’s without my own training. Mixed with water, I’ll get through 2L per day...it's the red stuff that is normally in my bottle

Glucosamine Sulphate is a really important as I get older, as it helps tendons, ligaments, cartilages and joints in general. I take 2 pills per day in the hope that I can keep my knees/hips and not have metal ones!

Magnesium  is another joy of getting old but is vital for bone structure and density. It also helps the heart maintain a healthy rhythm and regulate blood pressure but I rely more on my cardio for that . Although my multivit provides a small amount of the RDA for magnesium, 1 pill per day is sorta belt and braces

As mentioned earlier, this is just my list and specific only for me, my lifestyle and my diet. Everyone’s requirements will be different and it can be extremely confusing, as many will have their own opinion.
